MVP – Buster Posey

Shocker, I know, but Buster Posey has easily been the best player for the San Francisco Giants through the first half of the 2017 season.

More from Around the Foghorn

He’s leading the team in batting average (.324), on-base-percentage (.406) and hits (89). And Posey even missed time this year after getting hit in the head. He has the third most at-bats on the team with 275, but played in just 77 of the team’s  90 games.

Posey is also third on the team with 36 runs scored, tied for second with 18 doubles, second with 10 home runs, third with 35 RBI, second in walks with 33, second in total bases with 137 and first in slugging percentage at .498.

He was also the only San Francisco Giants player to make the All-Star Game.

In a season that has been hard to watch as San Francisco Giants fans, Buster Posey has been tremendous.

Brandon Belt has also had a very good year so far. He leads the San Francisco Giants with 51 runs scored and 16 home runs. He’s also played in 87 of 90 games for the Giants this year.

His average isn’t where you’d like it to be at .243, but his on-base-percentage of .349 is second best on the team. He’s also third on the team in hits (78), first in doubles (19), second in triples (3), second in RBI (44), first in total bases (151), first in walks (52), and second in slugging percentage (.470).

Let’s hope that we have a lot more candidates for this award after the second half as the San Francisco Giants hope to play better baseball.
