Sacramento River Cats

Record: 6-12, last in the Northern Division

The Sacramento River Cats have struggled to get going this season, which has been pretty uniform across their affiliates. The River Cats haven’t had many problems hitting the ball, but pitching has been an issue. We’ll just say this, no starter other than Clayton Blackburn has a WHIP under 1.40, and he’s not even in the organization anymore. However, here are some of the top prospects hanging out in Sacramento:

Beede has been OK, and had a rather rough in his last start. However, he’ll probably even out at some point. He did the same thing to start 2016 while in Richmond. Slow start and a big build throughout the season.

The Giants should be excited about the progress of Ryder Jones, whose bat has really come around. Jones, Slater, and Hwang are now the only guys on the roster hitting over .300. Hwang has yet to hit a HR, but his plate approach and contact have been pretty good so far, meaning the HR’s are coming.

They’ve placed him all over the infield and outfield as well, trying to make him a little more versatile. Hwang now leads those on the roster in total bases at 26. What’s funny? Christian Arroyo had nearly 20 more total bases when he was called up.

It seems like AAA, as always will have a lot of big leaguers coming up for rehab stints. One guy to keep an eye on is Dan Slania. The reliever turned starter was stellar in his first start for Richmond, but has struggled since. If he can get a grip on the jump in level of play in AAA from AA, he could be an intriguing roster option at some point.
