3. It Can’t Get Any Worse

More from Around the Foghorn

Most importantly, it can’t get any worse for the San Francisco Giants. They’re currently in last place in the National League West and without their ace in Madison Bumgarner.

I mean honestly, it can’t get any worse than that, can it?

I sure hope not, or it’s going to be a sad year for San Francisco Giants fans. However, I think we have seen the worst of this team in 2017.

There is absolutely no way that this team finishes the year in last place in the National League West. That would have to be the worst collapse of any team in history, and at that point I think you’d have to blow this thing up.

But that isn’t happening, the San Diego Padres will make sure of that.

However, at this point finishing fourth in the division seems likely. While we don’t want to overreact to a poor start to the season for the Giants, we also shouldn’t overreact to a hot start for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

The offense for the Diamondbacks can’t keep up this pace; likewise for the bullpen in Colorado. Both of these teams will come back to the norm by mid-season, allowing the Giants to make up some ground.

But I still think both the Diamondbacks and Rockies will be much improved teams this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them contends for a Wild Card spot.

Don’t jump off that cliff yet Giants fans, things can only go up from here. So buckle up and get ready for brighter days ahead.
