Under the Radar Player

One player to keep an eye on for the Diamondback’s 2017 season is Zack Greinke. Formerly a star pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Greinke got obliterated early on in the year last season. He sort of pieced it all together and finished the season with a 4.37 ERA. However these numbers were nothing compared to the impeccable 1.66 ERA he tossed when playing for the Dodgers.

Greinke has the opportunity to be a top contender and a force to be reckoned with this season. He finished second in Cy Young Award voting just a few years back,  and is predicted to make up for his embarrassing Arizona debut season. If Greinke can adjust to Chase Field, where he threw a 4.81 ERA last season, he’s looking eligible to find himself back in the ranks of the top pitchers in baseball.

Prediction for 2017

Athlon Sports predicts the Arizona Diamondbacks to finish 4th in the NL West. PECOTA projections had them at 78-84 and third in the west. The D’backs have potential to surprise, as we’ve seen last season.

Next: A position by position breakdown of the Giants and Dodgers

But hopefully this season they’ll surprise fans and experts in a positive way. With the return of AJ Pollack and David Pelrata, Taijuan Walker, Zack Greinke, and a Shelby Miller comeback season, the Diamondbacks could shock in the best way-but I’m not talking cream of the crop NL West material like the Giants or Dodgers. Our prediction? 81-81, 4th in the NL West.
