San Francisco Giants 2017 Preview of NL West: San Diego Padres

Additions
The Padres made a lot of decent additions through free agency all on one year contracts, or minor league deals. The biggest one of those additions, in name, was Jered Weaver. Weaver has a long and relatively successful career behind him, but with this being the “best addition” for the Padres, it’s hardly something to bat an eye at.
Weaver’s ERA was at a career worst 5.06 in 2016. With his strikeout rate on the way down, and Home Run rate on the way up, Weaver doesn’t appear to be a great move for the Padres. Granted, the starting pitcher market wasn’t even half as strong as 2015/2016’s class, it still is an underwhelming addition compared to the pitching firepower within the Division.
Jhoulyis Chacin was the actual good signing in this class, who came over on a one year deal. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, he’s projected to be the number one starter for them this season.
The addition of Erick Aybar has turned out to be good as well. He actually made use of his spring training invite and is expected to break camp with the big league squad, also according to the Union-Tribune.
If you want, you can count the presence of two of the top prospects in baseball on their opening day roster for the first time as additions as well. Manuel Margot, and Hunter Renfroe are good folks. So take a look at them closely.
