There aren’t many pitchers out there whose job description reads: face one batter per game. Many players would be angered by such a minimal role. Not the San Francisco Giants’ Javy Lopez, he thrived in it. Seven years later, he has 3 rings to show for it.
With the offseason officially here, the San Francisco Giants have some work to do filling in the holes left by the players that have now become free agents. One of those players is Javier Lopez. Known as a lefty specialist, the Giants traded for him in the 2010 season to bolster a bullpen to be able to contend for a championship.
Seven years later, Lopez has now been a part of three World Championships with the Giants. Together with Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo, and Santiago Casilla they were known as the Core 4. Lurking at the back end of the bullpen ready to be called upon to secure the victory.
Sadly, his time with the Giants has come to a close. Only time will tell whether or not Javier Lopez will return to the Giants next year. One thing is for sure though, Lopez is forever a Giant. As a tribute, we have come up with 5 great moments in Javier Lopez’ career as a San Francisco Giant.
