Fernando Abad

Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe connected the Giants to Abad in a recent article stating the Giants have been scouting the 30 year old southpaw. Abad has had a strong season to this point in the year, posting a solid 2.16 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 25 innings pitched. Abad has been used primarily as a setup man in the Minnesota Twins bullpen, as he only has one save on the season, but he has been effective in his appearances. The Giants have a pressing need in their bullpen, as the relief unit has collectively posted a 3.85 ERA, placing them at 15th in the MLB. Abad is currently on a one-year deal with the Twins worth a little north of $500,000, so a trade for Fernando would basically be a cheap rental unless San Francisco wanted to resign him. Abad has had a hot hand this season and would provide a boost to a hurting bullpen.

Verdict: Buy
