Shortstop: Rich Aurilia
This position was considered a light-hitting one for many years. Teams relied on defense from their shortstops, and didn’t care if he can handle the bat or not. Jose Uribe was a decent hitter, but again most would remember him for turning two with Thompson. Chris Speier was the only true competition for Aurilia, but Richie’s numbers (143 home runs, 574 RBI’s and a .275 batting average) set him apart from the pack. He made one All-Star team, and was a fixture at short for some of their most potent offensive years.
