Matt Cain

Sounds crazy to think that the Giants have had so much success with their pitching staff in just the last 10+ years, but it also has to do with drafting well and not allowing those players to leave. Cain had some early years in which he got zero run support, and still kept his head up and continued to improve. A 1st-round draft pick out of high school in 2002, Cain exemplifies the struggle it took for the Giants to turn the franchise around. His 97 wins, 1547 strikeouts, and three All-Star appearances don’t even scratch the surface when explaining his value to the team. He sports a career 3.47 ERA in eleven seasons, and up until recent injuries caught up with him, he was always one to take the ball. Known as “The Horse”, Cain still has time to increase his stats in the future, and is one who the team has relied heavily on to go deep into games. His perfect game in 2012 was a precursor to his postseason that year in which he won every series clinching game on their road to the ring.
