It looks like the return to a former team will not be as special as it was when Vogey returned to the Giants. The Pittsburgh Pirates are leaning towards giving the final rotation spot to Juan Nicasio. That doesn’t mean that Vogelsong will not make the team. But he will likely go to the bullpen, which is a role he played mostly last year with the Giants. His desire was to be in the more familiar starter role, but he has shown a resiliency in the past, and could end up in the rotation sometime this year. Currently, Vogelsong has an ERA of 6.08 in 4 games (3 starts), but has a career ERA of 5.92 in the spring so that’s not really an indicator of his effectiveness in the regular season.
