10. 1971 Giants

The 1971 San Francisco Giants were led by a young Bobby Bonds, an aging Willie Mays, and an in-his-prime Willie McCovey. The team won 90 games in the regular season, winning the west. They had Juan Marichal and Gaylord Perry, and Jerry Johnson saved 18 games that year.

After winning the division, the Giants won the first game in the NLCS against the Pittsburgh Pirates. But the Pirates took the next three games in the best of five, and went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. The Orioles had beaten the Oakland A’s in their series, so the Bay Bridge series would wait another 18 years.
