Pat Burrell

In 2010, the Giants signed the recently released Pat Burrell to a contract to finish out the season. He was sent to Triple-A for five games to get his timing down, and then he was brought up to start in left field. He had started the season with the Tampa Bay Rays and was hitting .202 when he was released after 24 games. This after hitting .221 the year before. So the expectations weren’t extremely high.

In 96 games Burrell hit .266 with 18 home runs, and a few mammoth shots that won games. One in particular was against the Dodgers on July 31st when he hit a 2-run shot in the eighth to take the lead 2-1, and eventually win it.  He was money down the stretch when they needed a run driven in.

He had an awful postseason, but the team that rode his production for a few months, was able to take it the rest of the way.
