The NL Wild Card Champion Chicago Cubs are in a similar position as San Francisco in that they are looking to upgrade their pitching staff to help co-aces Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta. Speculation from Evan Massey of Forbes Sports has already brought some hope for a contract agreement.

  • Besides Lester and Arrieta, Cubs starting pitchers had a combined 4.07 ERA and in games when the tandem did not pitch the Cubs went 55-42–not bad, but considering they finished 32 games over .500 insists that it could have been a lot better had they had a more consistent pitching staff.

Bringing in Lincecum on a $4-5 million contract is not going to kill GM Theo Epstein in regards to money, but it is a toss-up whether Lincecum’s hip surgery was for the better. With the Cubs looking like contenders for years to come behind Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, Lincecum would be on a championship caliber team with Chicago. We will have to wait and see if they make a pass at him.
