San Francisco Giants: Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford named to Sporting News All-Star team

Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford are the best, but you already knew that. Now the Sporting News—one of the country’s oldest and most respected sports publications—agrees. On Wednesday, Posey and Crawford were each named to the 2015 Sporting News National League All Star team, which was selected by a panel of 25 National League executives.

This is Posey’s third selection to the team and Crawford’s first. Posey has long been considered one of the NL’s top catchers, along with Yadier Molina, but Crawford’s selection highlights his increased profile around the league. In addition to displaying his signature stellar glove-work in 2015, Crawford sported a career-best batting line of .256/.321/.462, 21 HR, 84 RBI’s and a 5.6 WAR.

As for the always consistent Posey, the 2015 All Star catcher finished the year with a .318/.379/.470 slash line, 19 HR, 95 RBI’s and a 6.1 WAR.

Zach Greinke was selected as the team’s starting pitcher, just ahead of Clayton Kershaw and Cubs breakout ace Jake Arrieta. Diamondbacks centerfielder A.J. Pollock was somewhat of a surprise pick over names like Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, and Yoenis Cespedes.
