It’s all in the family with the Giants, right?
In all seriousness, Bochy (aka The Skipper’s Son) and Casilla (aka The Closer’s Brother) have been dealing for their respective clubs. While Bochy could have gotten down on himself following a July 3 DFA, he locked in after clearing waivers and took his ERA from above-4.00 all the way down to 2.65. Over in Richmond, the (hopefully) 26-year-old Casilla (I kid, I kid) has a team-leading 1.47 ERA, though his strikeout and WHIP numbers aren’t overly impressive.
Either of these guys would be feel-good callups, but I like Okert and Gregorio’s chances better. Okert (3.64 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 68 K) hasn’t quite lived up to expectations this year, but it always helps to have another lefty in the ‘pen, particularly with Jeremy Affeldt sidelined. Joan Gregorio is another guy who’s underwhelmed a bit, but his overall numbers for the Flying Squirrels aren’t too shabby (3.34 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 65K), and he’s already on the 40-man.
