Option No. 1: Tim Hudson (return from DL)

This is the most obvious choice for Bruce Bochy, but it’s not a very good one.

As much as I’d like Hudson to finish his Giants career with a sudden resurgence, the way he pitched following a three-week DL stint between June and July (6.00 ERA in two starts) doesn’t instill confidence.

If this second break allows Hudson to regain the form he flashed at the beginning of the season (3.78 ERA through five starts), however, the 40-year-old could be worth throwing out there every fifth day.

Hudson will rejoin the team when rosters expand on Sept. 1.
