Although the man they call “CarGo” might be expensive, he might be a guy that GM Bobby Evans needs in order for the Giants to leap in front of the Dodgers. Gonzalez is coming off of one of his best months of his career in July, as his Major League leading 74 bases and NL highs in home runs (11), RBIs (24), and slugging percentage (.841) earned him the National League Player of the Month award.
Gonzalez is a streaky hitter who can turn on the switch at any time and put a team on his back. However, his inconsistency can also be detrimental as all it takes is one of his slumps to start in September and San Francisco may be out of a playoff spot.
Gonzalez is expensive with his seven-year, $80 million contract, but he is signed through 2017 and wants to be on a winning team.
