Just when it seemed like the Giants were finally getting healthy (again), news broke of an oblique injury for Hunter Pence:
Given how important Pence is to San Francisco’s playoff hopes, the Twitterverse naturally had some pretty strong reactions:
As Steward touched on, an oblique strain could cost Pence 4-6 weeks, so possibly the rest of the regular season. Pavlovic later confirmed that the starting right fielder will miss at least 15 days.
On the plus side, Gregor Blanco has never been better equipped for a starting job and both Nori Aoki and Angel Pagan should be returning in short order. Realistically, though, it’s hard to say how much value Pagan can offer this team given his 2015 production to date, and Aoki’s been pretty banged up this season as well.
The Giants could continue to run out some combination of Justin Maxwell, Juan Perez and Ryan Lollis, but if Pence truly is out for the stretch drive, the front office will almost certainly look to make a move help the reigning champs play into October.
So, who are the top outfielders rumored to be available that could fill in for Pence? Let’s take a look.
