#6. San Jose Earthquakes
The only reason that I have the San Jose Earthquakes of the Major League Soccer (MLS) in front of the Sharks is because the ‘Quakes have won two MLS Cups. Their first championship came in 2001 when they beat rival Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1, lead by MLS Cup MVP Dwayne De Rosario who scored the golden goal to give San Jose their franchise’s first championship. Just two years later in 2003, the ‘Quakes defeated the Chicago Fire by a score of 4-2, where a go-ahead goal in the 50th minute by Richard Mulrooney put them up for good.

The decision to put the ‘Quakes in front of the Sharks is questionable in that the Sharks have sparked more of an audience and following since coming to the Bay; on the other hand, the ‘Quakes have had more postseason success. In the end, I chose to go with the team who had more rings to show.
In the brand new Avaya Stadium, the ‘Quakes have not had too much success in recent years, but newly hired Dominic Kinnear is getting his second chance to take over the head coaching duties in San Jose (Kinnear moved with the Earthquakes as they relocated in Houston in 2005, and the new Houston Dynamo won their first title in franchise history the following year).
Current captain Chris Wondolowski, a hometown kid out of Danville, California, will look to lead San Jose to their first title in the Bay since 2003.
