Update: Thursday, August 27
The Tims are both scheduled to rejoin the team when rosters expand on Sept. 1, but there’s an outside chance that one gets an early call-up to start in place on Matt Cain on Sunday.

Tim Lincecum (hips)
Degenerative hips put Timmy on the shelf for an indefinite period of time, but word is he’s making progress:

It appears he will be able to avoid going under the knife as well:

Lincecum will likely rejoin the team for a few low-pressure relief appearances after rosters expand. For now, he will focus on getting back to 100 percent.
Tim Hudson (shoulder…and more)
Update: Saturday, August 15
Hudson looked good in his first rehab start for Single-A San Jose, pitching 2.2 scoreless while striking out two. The righty will likely keep his pitch count down in future appearances as he ramps up for a potential bullpen gig.

Hudson was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, July 31 to make room for the newly-acquired Mike Leake. The injury?
Tim Hudson said he's OK going on DL to create roster spot for Leake. I asked what's the injury. He said, "Lets pick one." #sfgiants

Translation: an accumulation of old-man maladies he could play through if needed. Officially: a shoulder strain.
Huddy could do well in a bullpen role, but just like Lincecum, he’s going to have to wait until September. Barring another injury, the Giants are set with Ryan Vogelsong and Yusmeiro Petit as their long-men.
