  • Switching gears now to bullpen help, Joaquin Benoit of the San Diego Padres could be on the move as he is in his last year of his 2-year/$15.5 million contract with a club-option for 2016. Benoit’s arsenal includes a mid-90s 4-seam fastball, slider, and a hard downward-moving splitter.

This year as the set-up man in San Diego, Benoit is (6-4) with a 2.17 ERA.  Benoit, a big guy standing at 6’4″ and weighing in at 250 pounds, could give the Giants bullpen some relief as they failed to acquire any bullpen arms before the Trade Deadline. Although not a necessity, the San Francisco bullpen has been inconsistent because of the struggles of Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo, and, at times, closer Santiago Casilla.

Benoit is an experienced vet who could bring some postseason experience to the Giant bullpen.
