4. 2B Jeff Kent
In what turned out to be a star-for-star swap, this 1996 trade for future NL MVP Jeff Kent was one of those that made Giant fans say, “What the heck?” The Giants traded away third baseman and fan favorite (and current Washington National manager) Matt Williams in exchange for second baseman Jeff Kent, pitcher Julian Tavarez, and infielder Jose Vizcaino. Kent would quicjly win over the fans, and had an MVP campaign in 2000 when he hit .334 with 33 home runs and 125 RBIs. Two years later, Kent and teammate Barry Bonds would lead their team to their first National League Pennant in 14 years.
