San Francisco Giants: Top 10 midseason trades in San Francisco era
By Danny Vietti

6. RHP Jason Schmidt
On July 30, 2001, the Giants acquired future three-time All Star starting pitcher Jason Schmidt and outfielder John Vander Wal from the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Armando Rios and right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (who eventually made his way back to the team, of course). Schmidt was brought over to help the Giants in their playoff push, but would eventually lose to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2001 World Series. Nevertheless, Schmidt went on to have quite a career for the franchise, including a three-year stretch of brilliance (2002-2004).
