In response to a surprising playoff run for a 2009 San Francisco Giant team, GM Brian Sabean traded pitcher Tim Alderson to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Freddy Sanchez. Sanchez would go on to hit .292 for the 2010 Giants and solidify second base to help them reach their second World Series in San Francisco era.
