Giants a top suitor for Zack Greinke?

Reports of the Giants adding a difference-maker have obviously been centered on the trade deadline, but Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal recently penned an article wherein he identifies the Giants as a top suitor for Dodgers ace Zack Greinke once he hits the open market this offseason.

His reasoning is sound: The team has a lot of salary coming off the books and there is a great deal of mutual respect there, but you have to think the Dodgers will do all they can to lock up the best No. 2 starter in the bigs—especially if failing to do so would aid a division rival.

Obviously, Greinke is much more than a No. 2 guy, and you could even make the argument that he’s the best pitcher going in the game today. If the Giants were able to lure him up to San Francisco, he and Madison Bumgarner would immediately become the most feared one-two punch in the MLB.

Ned Colletti poached plenty of former Giants over the years…this winter would be a great time to return the favor.
