Hudson takes the hill in the Giants’ series opener versus the Padres tonight.

Though it’s hard to say whether Huddy went on the DL due to a shoulder strain or accumulation of old-man ailments, the 40-year-old is primed to return to the Giants’ rotation after the break:

Hudson’s bullpen sessions have looked good, according to reports, but I expect the right-hander to be on a short leash given his inconsistency for most of the season. Ryan Vogelsong is headed back to the bullpen for now, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make at least few more starts for the team if Hudson (or any of the Giants starters not named Madison Bumgarner) falters.
