Giants reportedly ink pair of early-round picks

Per MLB.com’s Jim Callis, the Giants have agreed to terms with first-round pick Chris Shaw (1B) and third-round selection Jalen Miller (SS).

The organization overpaid Miller ($1.1 million) and underpaid Shaw ($1.4 million) comparable to their slot values, which makes sense given that the former was a prep player and projected to go higher in the draft.

I’m not completely sold on Shaw panning out, but his raw power would obviously be a boon the organization. Managing to snag Miller—a middle infielder that has drawn Brandon Phillips comparisons—at No.95 overall is a steal, in my opinion.

No word yet on 18th-overall pick Phil Bickford, but the Giants should have a lot of leverage in negotiations given that he jumped to the community college ranks to expedite his entry into the bigs.
