Heston or Vogelsong on the outs?
Once Peavy is eligible to rejoin the team, do the Giants stick with Chris Heston or Ryan Vogelsong in the rotation?
After a month of May where Heston got battered in three of his starts (16 ER in 12.2 IP), and Vogelsong absolutely dealt (1.14 ERA), I would have sided with the vet.
Then this happened:
It’s hard to argue with a no-no, and Heston’s overall numbers (3.76 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) have also been better. Vogelsong hasn’t looked great thus far in June, either (12 ER in 16.1 IP, 11/9 SO/BB). Things could change over the next couple of weeks, but San Francisco will likely keep the upstart rookie in the rotation and let Vogey slide back into his swingman role.
As far as which reliever will pack his bags to make room for Peavy, my vote’s for Jean Machi (currently on DL), but I suspect it will be recently promoted Michael Broadway.
