Eddy Julio Martinez visited by Giants brass
I brought up Cuban prospect Eddy Julio Martinez (who will henceforth be known as EJM) in my first rumor roundup, more or less dismissing him as a second-rate prospect judging solely off his signing bonus.
Well, the Giants thought enough of him to send someone down to the Caribbean for a first-hand look, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, and another scout in attendance dished out quite the compliment:
One international scout here in Panama told me Cuban OF prospect Eddy Julio Martinez reminded him of a young Andruw Jones."He's legit, man."

That’s just one scout’s opinion, but it’s hard to ignore such lofty praise being heaped on the 20-year-old outfielder. Angel Pagan won’t be around forever, and who wouldn’t want the next Andruw Jones manning center?
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. The Giants may be taking more initiative than the other interest ball clubs, but they’ve lost out on pretty much every marquee Cuban prospect to hit the market in recent years.
