Injury Updates

Position Players

Hunter Pence has been making steady progress with Sacramento and will play in his fourth game tonight before an off day on Wednesday. While he hasn’t done a whole lot at the plate (one hit in eight at-bats), it’s clear that Pence hasn’t lost his swagger:

I’d expect The Reverend to be back in game shape in about a week, at which point the Giants would likely use their final option on Hector Sanchez.

The more difficult roster decision will come once Travis Ishikawa is ready to go. Though he experienced a a setback in late April, Ishi has played in a handful of games for the Rivercats in May and should be ready right around the same time as Pence.

Who he replaces, however, remains to be seen. In the meantime, he and Pence can continue to bro out, accordingly:

Starting Pitchers

Jake Peavy and Matt Cain both remain a ways away from rejoining the Giants, but it appears the former is closer to game action.

While the Giants lock horns with the ’Stros, Peavy will continue taking small steps in the team’s Spring Training facility:

Part of the reason Peavy is going to Arizona is so the big-league training staff can focus its efforts on the other ailing Giants. One of those guys is Cain, who should be close to throwing off a mound after over a week of flat-ground work. It’s been pretty hard to keep tabs on Cain since he went down back in April, but he’s finally making strides worth reporting, which is something.

Cainer clearly remains in good spirits, too:
