Today, the San Francisco Giants are scheduled to meet with Oakland Athletics’ Left Handed Pitcher, Jon Lester, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Lester, who pitched for the Oakland A’s during their postseason run in 2014, is now a free agent. He has a few other teams looking to offer him a contract, including the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. The Giants reportedly may need to offer him a bigger contract than they offered Sandoval.

Lester has 9 years under his belt in his career, having played with the Red Sox for 8 ½ of those years. In 2014, he ended his regular season with a 2.46 ERA, 16-11 record, and a 1.102 WHIP. He pitched against the Kansas City Royals during the 2014 AL Wild Card game. His ERA was 7.36.

With the Giants looking at enriching their starting rotation, they will need to shop around for at least one starting pitcher. Both Jake Peavy and Ryan Vogelsong are in free agency.

Lester was drafted by the Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2002 amateur draft. He made his MLB debut June 10, 2006.
