The San Francisco Giants’ hall of famer, power-hitting, first-baseman, Willie McCovey has been hospitalized due to serious infection. The Giants confirmed this in a statement, released yesterday. Typically, the Willie Mac award is one of the best events in the Giants calendar, it will be a somber event this year, however. The statement read as follows:
"Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey was hospitalized last week for complications stemming from an infection. He is being treated at a local hospital and his recovery is progressing every day. The Giants remain in close contact with Willie and his family and urge all fans to keep Willie in their thoughts as he recovers. Fans wishing to send Willie get well messages can do so via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or via mail to Willie McCovey c/o San Francisco Giants, San Francisco, CA 94107."
McCovey hit 521 career home runs, which prompted the naming of the cove, ‘McCovey Cove.’ His award was due to be presented this Friday. If you have any words of encouragement, please don’t refrain from using the email/address above. Get well soon, Willie.
