Game preview – San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers: Lineups

By Timmy Kennedy

Fresh after an off day, the San Francisco Giants arrive in Detroit for a series with the Detroit Tigers. Naturally, the Tigers send a plethora of aces to the hill for the series, starting with Rick Porcello (15-9, 3.10 ERA) tonight, the secret ace of the staff. He will face off with Jake Peavy (3-4, 2.66 ERA) of the Giants, who has been in sensational form since joining the Giants, from the Red Sox.

Porcello is a ground ball pitcher, and hence, the Giants will have to pounce upon anything left up in the zone to punish him, otherwise — it may be a busy night for the Detroit infield. Peavy will look to continue his incredible form, and will once more look to his slider – which was so effective in his last start – to put away right handers.

The San Francisco Giants will line up as follows:

Angel Pagan CF

Joe Panik 2B

Buster Posey C

Pablo Sandoval 3B

Hunter Pence RF

Gregor Blanco LF

Travis Ishikawa 1B

Adam Duvall DH

Brandon Crawford SS

Here’s how the Detroit Tigers will line up this evening:

Ian Kinsler 2B

Torii Hunter RF

Miguel Cabrera 1B

Victor Martinez DH

J.D. Martinez LF

Nick Castellanos 3B

Bryan Holaday C

Eugenio Suarez SS

Rajai Davis CF

Pagan returns to the lineup tonight, which is excellent. However — the emission of Michael Morse worries me, slightly. Given the Giants are playing in Detroit, the DH rule will be in use but Morse isn’t even deemed fit enough to DH tonight. Also — In my opinion, Boch should definitely hit Blanco ninth, just like how the Tigers bat Davis ninth. Enjoy the game.
