The San Francisco Giants will look to split the inter-league series with the Oakland Athletics today at 12:45pm with Tim Hudson (7-5, 2.53 ERA) on the mound for the Giants and LHP Scott Kazmir (10-3, 2.53 ERA) starting for the A’s. Both pitchers have the same ERA currently.

Hudson will be pitching against his previous team today and there’s no doubt there will be some emotion today, especially since the A’s tried to sign Hudson and he chose to go to San Francisco instead. Here’s how the match-up has looked when Hudson has faced Oakland batters.

Kazmir has had a phenomenal season with the A’s and has the fourth lowest ERA in the AL. If his recent performance is any indication of how he’ll pitch today, we can expect a pitcher’s duel.  Kazmir was previously with the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Indians so the Giants haven’t seen much of him despite being in the majors for ten years. He holds a career 86-73 record with a 4.02 ERA.

Brandon Hicks will get the start at second base today against the LHP and is batting .164 with 76 strikeouts in 201 at bats this season for the Giants. It’s been said Marco Scutaro will be activated as early as tomorrow and we may see Hicks  be designated for assignment for a roster spot. Hicks hasn’t had a hit since June 11. Brandon Crawford will be batting second today after lead-off hitter Hunter Pence.
