Brandon Belt is officially off the disabled list after breaking his thumb. Adam Duvall, who was recently called up, has been optioned back down to the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies.

With the San Francisco Giants struggling of late, Belt will be a welcome addition to the lineup. He was one of the team home run leaders before his injury and hit 3 home runs in his rehab games in San Jose and Fresno.

Adam Duvall’s demotion has less to do with how he’s been hitting in San Francisco and the fact that the Giants simply don’t need to carry yet another first baseman when they have so many other options in the event Belt needs a day off. As Henry Schulman put it on Twitter, it wouldn’t have mattered if Duvall went 4-for-4 yesterday, he would have still been sent back down as he was only intended to be here a short time for now.

Let’s hope Belt is ready to get back in the swing if things and light a fire under this team that has been struggling mightily in the month of June.

Welcome back, Baby Giraffe! It’s good to see you!
