Adam Wainwright was too much for the San Francisco Giants as he threw 7.2 IP, 4 H and 0 R. Tyler Colvin, Joe Panik (2 H) and Hector Sanchez were the only players to get a hit off of Wainwright. Panik and Sanchez both had two out hits in the bottom of the eighth inning but, Gregor Blanco flew out to end the inning.

Ryan Vogelsong was almost as good, allowing 2 ER on 6 H through 7 IP. He allowed four hits in the 3rd inning that plated both Cardinals runs.

Hunter Pence made it interesting in the ninth inning when he led off the inning with a leadoff single. Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval grounded into what should be been double plays but, Pence slid into the second baseman Mark Ellis to keep Posey out of the double play. Pablo Sandoval grounded to the first baseman but, it was slow so they got Posey at second while Sandoval was safe at first. Michael Morse was the last hope for the Giants in the ninth with Sandoval at first and 2 outs. Morse struck out swinging to end the game.
