Pre-game notes & lineups: Angel Pagan to DL

By Eric Nathanson

The San Francisco Giants will try to avoid a sweep at home to the San Diego Padres this afternoon at AT&T Park. RHP Tim Lincecum (5-5, 4.90 ERA) goes for the Giants against RHP Ian Kennedy (5-8, 3.90 ERA) of the Padres, first pitch is scheduled for 12:45 PT.

Angel Pagan has been put on the disabled list with his sore back, finally. After not playing for 10 days, the Giants will finally sit him down. The DL stint is retroactive to June 15th, so Pagan will eligible to be activated Monday June 30.

Meet the new guy, Adam Duvall. He gets his call from Fresno and will make his MLB debut whenever he enters a ball game. He’s an infielder and was just featured by our very own Erin Wild in her weekly “Cow Tipping” series. You can learn all about Adam Duvall here.

The lineups for today’s game.

There’s not much to point out here. Once again Buster Posey is at first base with Hector Sanchez behind the dish. Joe Panik starts again and is still looking for his first hit in front of the home faithful.

Lincecum has generally handled the Padres during his tenure. Chase Headly looks to be the biggest threat as he has 4 lifetime home runs against the mustachioed Giants starter.

The Giants need a win to avoid being swept at home to the Padres for the first time since May 11-13, 2010. The Los Angeles Dodgers are now 3 games back in the division and gaining fast. A win today for the Giants sure would make a lot of people breathe easier.
