Pre-game notes & lineups: San Francisco Giants return home, Matt Cain is back

By Eric Nathanson

The San Francisco Giants return home to start a 10-game home stand against the New York Mets tonight at 7:15 PT at AT&T Park. That’s the good news, here’s the better news; RHP Matt Cain (1-3, 3.66 ERA) returns from the DL (hamstring) to start for the Giants. LHP Jonathon Neise (3-3, 2.69 ERA) gets the call for New York.

David Huff has been designated for assignment to make room for Cain. The Giants will stay with a 12-man staff for the time being.

The MLB Draft is ongoing. The Giants selected RHP Tyler Beede from Vanderbilt with their first selection yesterday. For other notes on the draft so far you can click here.

The lineups for your Orange Friday ballgame.

It’s pretty much status quo for the Giants. Once again Juan Perez is in against a lefty. That’s because he is the only right-handed option or the LF slot when Michael Morse is at 1st base (like tonight). Also he’s 2 for 2 lifetime off Niese, so obviously ownage is ownage.

Mets starter Niese has pitched well over his last 3 starts going 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA. The Mets won all 3 of those games.

This begins a long home stand for the boys by the Bay. In fact, the Giants only have 5 games outside of the state of California between now and the All-Star Break. Twenty of the next thirty games for the Giants are at AT&T Park. Get ready for some home cooking.
