The Giants will face the Cardinals today at 11:15am PT for the final game of a four-game series. The Giants won the first two games and the Saint Louis shutout the Giants yesterday. Buster Posey returns to the lineup today (ok, breathe a sigh of relief) and Tim Hudson (5-2, 1.92 ERA) will make the start against Lance Lynn (6-2, 3.13 ERA) of the Carinals.

Michael Morse is scratched from the lineup today after fouling a ball off his foot in batting practice on Saturday. According to Henry Schulman, it’s bothering him too much to make the start today. Joaquin Arias will be at first base in Morse’s place.

Hudson has been the Giants’ most reliable starter this season. With the exception of the May 22 game against the Rockies, Hudson has pitched at least seven innings in each of his starts. He has only walked six batters in 70.1 innings. Hudson mentioned he doesn’t do too well in the heat anymore and has been benefiting from the cool San Francisco weather. It’s already 84 degrees in Saint Louis.

Lynn has also had a great season so far for the Cardinals, in his last start against the Yankees on May 27, he pitched a 6-0 shutout, only allowing five hits over nine innings. But the Giants have done well against Lynn in the past and have a .357 batting average when facing him. Oscar Taveras is in the lineup again today for the Cardinals in right field (no surprise there) after hitting a home run off Yusmeiro Petit in his major league debut yesterday.
