The Giants have officially purchased the contract of Tyler Colvin (OF) from Fresno and called him up this morning, sending George Kontos back down to Triple-A.

Matt Cain was also activated today, Brandon Belt placed on 15 -day DL and Marco Scutaro was moved to 60-day DL.

Colvin had an excellent spring training with the Giants after being signed to a minor league contract on February 23, 2014. He hit 20 home runs for the Cubs in 2011, his first full season in the MLB. In 2012 with the Colorado Rockies, he had a .290 batting average with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs. He spent most of 2013 on the DL or in Triple-A.

Marco Scutaro was moved to the 60-day DL, which frees up the spot needed on the 40-man roster for Colvin. Scutaro still has a lot of rehab to do to return to the Giants and it’s unlikely, in my opinion, we’ll see him back before the All Star break in July.
