The San Francisco Giants head to Colorado for the first time this season to face the Rockies in a 3 game series. Tonight it’s RHP Ryan Vogelsong (0-0, 5.40 ERA) against LHP Jorge De La Rosa (0-3, 7.58 ERA). First pitch is at 5:40 PT. from Coors Field in Denver.
The Giants are looking to get back on track after ending a 3 game losing streak yesterday in San Diego. So far in 2014 the Giants have gone 6-4 on the road but have lost 3 of their last 4.
The lineups for tonight’s game.
As you can see Pablo Sandoval is back in the lineup tonight. After getting a day off yesterday he hits 5th in tonight’s order. It makes sense, Sandoval is 11 for 34 (.324) lifetime off De La Rosa.
The Giants bats have been silent lately. The runs just aren’t coming. In the past 5 games the Giants have scored only 9 runs while hitting just .164. With runners in scoring position it has been even worse. The Giants are 8 for 60 (.133) over their last 9 games.
Coors Field could be the cure-all. Buster Posey got on track a bit yesterday with a 2 run home run, but Coors Field will be a welcome sight. Posey has a lifetime batting average of .402 in Denver, the highest among all active players. In 30 games played at Coors Field, Posey has hit safely in 25 of them.
Ryan Vogelsong has done a fine job with the Rockies 2 best hitters over the years. Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki are a combined 1 for 23 off the Giants right hander. Overall Vogelsong is 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA against Colorado. The Rockies have hit just .199 off Vogelsong in those 8 starts.
Fun little fact I found. Brandon Belt has homered in every park the Giants have played in this season. I know the total is only 4, but that’s pretty impressive. I’m sure he’ll do it at Coors sometime this week as well. For more on all the series matchups go check out Melissa’s series preview here.
