With starting second basemen Marco Scutaro still dealing with back issues and his status to start the season being at “50/50”, this is probably good news for both Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza.
Giants released Tony Abreu. Good news for Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza.

Abreu has been battling Adrianza for the backup infielder job and is not having a good spring at all.
Abreu was signed to a 1 year contract earlier in the off-season,$745K.
The Giants are on the hook for just a quarter of Tony Abreu's $745,000 salary.

I would imagine this has to be great news for Hicks, who is having a very good spring training and someone I personally think has earned a spot on the Major League roster.
I saw Hicks in a game 2 weeks ago, when I was in Arizona attending Giants Spring Training, and he impressed me with his power and play. During that game he hit an opposite field home run off of Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw and also drew a bases loaded walk to score the winning run that game.
In yesterday’s game versus the White Sox, Hicks had 3 hits including this long home run.
