The Giants, with Madison Bumgarner on the mound, played against the Giants “Futures,” top prospects from the Giants Minor League camp. Half of the Giants went to Glendale to take on the Dodgers.

Bumgarner went four scoreless innings only allowing one hit. He also hit an RBI single in the bottom on the first inning off pitching prospect Kyle Crick, who allowed 5 ERs in 2/3 innings pitched.

Scottsdale Stadium was half full and being that it was the Giants vs the Giants, the atmosphere was even more relaxed than you would expect. People sat wherever they wanted and the players signed before, after and during the game. Pat Burrell and Brian Sabean were in attendance and Hunter Pence and Sergio Romo watched a few innings from the Giants dugout. Matt Cain threw some balls to the kids before the game from the bullpen.

Aside from Bumgarner’s amazing outing, Santiago Casilla pitched one inning, Chris Heston two innings, Mike Kickham one inning and Heath Hembree one inning for the Giants to shut out the Future’s team.

For the Futures, Jose Casilla, Ty Blach, Clayton Blackburn, Kendry Flores and Derek Law all pitched. There were only seven hits from the Future’s team and two were from top 1B prospect Angel Villalona. Rando Moreno, Ryder Jones, Ben Turner, Christian Arroyo, Matt Duffy all had hits for the Future’s team today.

For the Giants, Roger Kieshnick hit a home run in the 7th inning and Brett Krill (not Brett Pill– haha) went 2-3. Mark Minicozzi hit some far foul balls today but went 1-3. He has amazing power, I hope to see more of him in the rest of spring training.

More tomorrow from Scottsdale.
