Today is the first official game of Spring Training for the San Francisco Giants. They’ll be taking on Bay rivals, Oakland Athletics at 12:05 pm PST. I haven’t been able to find out if the game is going to be on TV or streaming anywhere (it’s not on, but you should be able to listen live on KNBR and/or MLB At-Bat if you have the audio package.

John Shea of the SF Chronicle did a piece about the new collision and replay rules, and the challenges the umpires will be facing.

"Giants catcher Buster Posey acknowledged the rule is toughest for umpires, who must judge a runner’s intent in case of a collision. Red Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski went as far as saying he feels sorry for umpires."

It’s short, sweet, and to the point. Give it a read. New collision rule, new replay — OK, umpires, get it right

Just to get you excited for today.

And finally, today’s lineup for Oakland, per Alex Pavlovic.

Blanco cf
Belt 1b
Sandoval 3b
Pence rf
Morse lf
Sanchez c
Abreu 2b
Crawford ss
Colvin DH
Petit p

Seeing Brandon Belt in the 2-hole is kind of interesting. It’s also worth noting that Buster Posey will not be playing until Friday.
