Eric Surkamp Designated For Assignment

Eric Surkamp was designated for assignment today to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for new left fielder Michael Morse.
#SFGiants designated Eric Surkamp for assignment on Dec. 19. Michael Morse and Ryan Vogelsong have been officially added to 40-man roster.

#sfgiants say on transaction page they have DFA'd LHP Eric Surkamp (h/t @mlbtraderumors). If not claimed, team can outright him to Fresno.

Surkamp is 2-3 with a 7.26 ERA in the big leagues but has dominated in the minors in 2013 after recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2012.
The left-hander was 7-1 with a 2.78 ERA in AAA Fresno in 2013. In five seasons in MiLB he is 33-14 with a 2.84 ERA. I would be surprised if another team didn’t pick him up this time around.
I remember when prospect fans would ask tons of question about Eric Surkamp because his stats were so stellar.

In the last couple days there are two guys who were DFA'd that I'd like to see the #Mets take a shot on: Chance Ruffin and Eric Surkamp

Surkamp was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Here was a Top Prospect video the Giants posted 2/2/2012.
