#4 Favorite Non-Giants Teams: Red Sox

By Melissa Felkins

I know it may not be realistic for everyone, but for most of us, there are a few other teams we don’t mind cheering for after the Giants. I thought it would be fun to share my list of favorite baseball teams, aside from the Giants. It would also be great to hear some of yours down in the comments as well.

Growing up in Kentucky, the Giants obviously weren’t on my radar for a while. During that time, I learned to love (and loathe) a few other teams…that is until I found my true home as a Giants fan. So here is my list of my favorite non-Giants baseball teams.

Boston Red Sox

This choice ended up being out of necessity more than anything, but they’ve grown on my in the meantime. In 2004, the Cardinals were playing in the World Series. Typically, I’ll almost always cheer for an NL team over an AL team. However, I hate the Cardinals. Maybe it’s from being a bit of a Cubs fan, or a Pirates fan, but all the same, I don’t like them and I was not about to cheer for them in the World Series that year.

Of course, that was the same year the Red Sox pulled off 4 elimination games against the Yankees in the ALCS. And of course, they were going to have a shot to win their first World Series since 1918, so it made for a good story as well.

The last bit that contributed to continuing to be a Red Sox fan was my first trip to Fenway park in 2008. It’s on the top of my favorite parks list and in terms of history, has a slight end in my book over Wrigley. I loved Fenway and the city of Boston, and I also have remained a Red Sox fan every since.
