#1 Favorite Non-Giants Teams: Pirates

By Melissa Felkins

I know it may not be realistic for everyone, but for most of us, there are a few other teams we don’t mind cheering for after the Giants. I thought it would be fun to share my list of favorite baseball teams, aside from the Giants. It would also be great to hear some of yours down in the comments as well.

Growing up in Kentucky, the Giants obviously weren’t on my radar for a while. During that time, I learned to love (and loathe) a few other teams…that is until I found my true home as a Giants fan. So here is my list of my favorite non-Giants baseball teams.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The first time I remember becoming a “fan” of an MLB team was the day I became a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. I was in elementary school and I was watching baseball with my grandpa. I asked him what his favorite baseball team was and he told me the Pirates. I decided at that point, that I was a pirates fan too. Of course, those were the days when Barry Bonds donned black and yellow instead of black and orange. I became a Pirates fan and fell in love with Bonds as a player. When he went to San Francisco, I was a little devastated, but I decided if he was going to play in San Francisco, I should be a Giants fan too.

In addition, PNC Park in Pittsburgh is my favorite stadium. I mean, of course AT&T is my home, but I enjoyed PNC the most of the stadiums I’ve visited. It’s positioned just perfectly in the wonderful city of Pittsburgh.
