Ryan Vogelsong and the Giants have agreed to a 1 year contract, pending the outcome of his physical, per the beat writers.

According to Schulman, he’ll be guaranteed about $3mm and could earn up to $8mm with incentives. It seems like a good deal for the Giants. They declined his $6.5mm option, so they’ll only have to pay him about half of that if he doesn’t perform up to their expectations. But, if he performs well, I’m sure the Giants will be happy to pay him. He has the incentives to get back to form in 2014.

Vogelsong is a fan favorite and had expressed interest in staying in San Francisco. However, after missing a good deal of 2013 due to an injury, and have a 5.73 ERA when he did pitch, didn’t help his cause to get his option automatically picked up. His first two season in San Francisco his ERA average was 3.05. If he can get anywhere close to that again, I think the Giants will be thrilled with him, and likely give him a slightly longer contract.

For now though, we for sure have a set rotation and Vogey will be back one more year. For a one year contract, it’s not too high of risk and there are always your Petit and Gaudin type people who hopefully can fill the game if it doesn’t pan out.

How are you feeling about the rotation now that it is set?
