Giants Designate Monell And Peguero For Assignment

The Giants have designated Johnny Monell and Francisco Peguero for assignment to make room for LHP Jose De Paula and RHP Erik Cordier on the 40-man roster.

Monell was drafted by the Giants in the 30th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He made his MLB debut in 2013 against the Diamondbacks on September 5. He finished the season with eight at bats and a .125 batting average.

Peguero was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 2005. He made his MLB debut in 2012 with 16 at bats and a .166 batting average. He had 29 at bats this season with a .207 batting average.

Jose De Paula has been in the Padres minor league system as a LHP, 29-24 with a 3.82 ERA.

Erik Cordier was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2nd round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft and is a RHP 37-36 with a 4.58 ERA in eight minor league seasons.
