Tim Lincecum

(55) prepares to deliver a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning at AT

The Giants host the Dodgers tonight in the last game between the 2 teams this season. Tim Lincecum (10-14, 4.44) will start for the Giants in what might possibly be his last game for the organization. Among active pitchers Lincecum has the 5th best lifetime ERA (2.94) against the Dodgers. Overall he has made 22 starts against Los Angeles going 9-6.

For the Dodgers it is Edinson Volquez (0-2, 4.30) on the mound tonight. This will be the second start against the Giants for Volquez since his mid season trade from the Padres. He faced the Giants a couple weeks ago at Dodger Stadium allowing 2 home runs to Hunter Pence in a 4-3 Giants victory.

On July 13, Volquez was the starter for the Padres on the night of Lincecum’s no hitter in San Diego. This season the Giants have battered the right hander scoring 16 runs and banging out 28 hits in just 21.2 innings.

The lineups for the series finale.

Originally Pablo Sandoval was in the starting lineup but became a late scratch with the flu.

The Giants have wrapped up the season series over the Dodgers by virtue of their win last night. In fact the Giants have a 41-31 record against NL West teams this season. The best in the division.

In other very sad news, it was reported that a Dodgers fan by the name of Jonathan Denver was stabbed to death near the ballpark last night. You can find more informaton here, and we will follow up with more details as they emerge.

The Giants have announced that a moment of silence will be observed before tonight’s game.

Please enjoy the game tonight everyone and let’s keep the rivalry in its proper perspective. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Denver family.
